As I continue my professional journey, I like to think of my career as one big learning experience that continuously grows from my roots. With a dedication to agriculture and a curiosity for what’s ahead of the curve, I keep my work practical, relevant and creative. MY ROOTS
Strong roots are important for a corn plant to grow. They gather nutrients and water for the plant to survive. Much like a corn plant, my roots have been deeply developed in the agricultural industry. Growing up in the small town of Liscomb, Iowa, I had the opportunity to start my own herd of cows that has grown substantially over time. In high school, I realized my passion of visiting with consumers at the grocery store and working with local beef producers to share their stories. Thus, a major in Agricultural Communications with minors in Animal Science and Public Relations at Iowa State University was the perfect fit. During the school year, I enjoy working at the ISU Beef Teaching Farm where I assist in social media content development, videography, and herd data management.
Roots on the farm aren’t the only thing that are important – they are critical in growing a network as well. After much debate, I decided to head to Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, for a semester. Being 1,000 miles away from home can teach you a lot about yourself. As I worked through the daily challenges and wins, one message remained the same: I was meant to be where I was. Just like a seed is planted diligently in the ground in the spring, I was put in Montana for a reason. I learned a lot during my semester there.
As I look towards graduation and jumping feet first into the “real world,” I continue to be excited about the future of the beef industry and what small role I can play in it. Roots are so important, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds as I start my career in advocating for the industry that I love.
