My time in the western half of the corn belt came to a close at the end of the week last week and I turned and headed back across the Mississippi to AgReliant Genetics headquarters in Westfield, IN for the beginning of the week. What an eye-opening experience and learning curve. I had the opportunity to participate in the execution of the annual Launch Meeting. This year, it looked different for the entire LG Seeds brand as we couldn’t meet in person. However, the amount of work and planning the Marketing Team completed in preparation made the process a seamless event. I was intrigued at how much detail was put into the development of the minute-by-minute schedule and how all the videos and livestream flowed together. I understand that this couldn’t have been possible for the individuals behind the sound board, video cameras, designing the website, hosting the show live, and those keeping all team members in line.
Shooting video on my small Canon Rebel T7i camera and filming a livestream video on a JVC professional broadcasting camera are two different ball games. It proved to be a lot of fun and a big learning curve as I watched the speakers through the lens of a camera – making sure that each movement was caught in the center of the camera. I quickly learned that even the smallest movements of the camera make a difference on the viewers’ end.
This week also provided the opportunity to watch the almost all of Marketing Team work cohesively together. I had met everyone through Microsoft Teams calls, but finally got to shake everyone’s hand and chat about their positions on the team. Much like what I anticipated, the Marketing Team is a family, knowing the smallest details about one another and questioning about what their kids were up to. I was in awe as they seamlessly worked together to overcome challenges that we faced as we broadcasted and celebrated together with each victory we had.
Of course, my entire time in Indiana was not consumed with work – we had fun as well! I can recount one time in my life where I have been on a boat and the only thing I remember was eating a ham sandwich and watching the waves roll by. This time, the boat was a pontoon and we explored the Morse Reservoir. It was a great time and allowed us to all socialize outside the office setting – especially before the crazy two days we had on the Launch Meeting set.
As we wrap up this week, it’s hard to believe that I have three weeks left as a Marketing Intern for LG Seeds. It has been an absolute blast so far and I look forward to what is yet to come. Speaking of which, we have at least one more state to knock off the list. Pack your suitcase, throw your tripod in the car, and grab a notepad because this next week, we are headed back across the mighty Mississippi for one of the final times to Illinois. Stay tuned for more “Adventures from the Corn Belt!”
